My husband is Palestinian and we lived in Jordan for 2 years after marrying, I can confirm, Arabic is an absolute asshole of a language to learn 🤣 it took me about 4 months just to learn the basic alphabet, not even counting grammar or harakats, just the basic forms of each letter 🤣 and don’t even get me started on the process of learning Qu’ranic Arabic, recitation and tajweed 🤣 beautiful language but not for the faint of heart 🤣

My understanding is that Japanese is mostly difficult due to the multiple writing systems used. It's not so much the speaking/listening part, but the reading/writing part that confuses most people.

How is it that the languages most simialr to english, are not rated as highly as the romance languages. English has borrowed a lot of vocab from french and spanish, but the most frequently used words in german or dutch would be more similar. I think he gets away with this by factoring in chances to practice. But then it's not really which language is easier to learn, its which languages are more widely spoken.
